Review
You have to admire their production values. Brian Eno does wonders with effects. You also have to admire that it is almost all really successful singles, there is little filler here.
That being said, they are still following a formula which is anything but original. It is the same old U2 crap. Able to appeal to the biggest number of people while still making them retain some kind of feeling of musical superiority... a bit like Coldplay, really.
So yeah, the album is not terrible as you can sing along to more than half of it, but it is still pretty blah. Unexciting music from an unexciting band.

You've hit it perfectly with the whole "superiority" thing. Never thought of it that way, always thought they're prime weakness was arrogance but never really put a word to it.
